Novice Workshop

What? The novice workshop is designed for students that have never participated in debate before. This workshop can last one day; however, I prefer a two day workshop with additional practice rounds and case writing.

The novice seminar includes the following:
- Introductory Activity
- Lecture: LD Basics
- Lecture: Case Construction, Basic Criteria
- Discussion of Arguments on Example Topic
- Times, Flowing
- Demonstration Round
- Lecture: Rebuttals, Cross Examination
- Cross Examination Exercises
- Rebuttal Exercises

If time allows (two day seminar only)
- Guided Practice Rounds
- Case Writing

When? Whenever. I need enough notice to prepare research on the topic, and to find a mutually agreeable time.

Where? I live in North Richland Hills, Texas (just north of Fort Worth); however, I am willing to travel reasonable distances if my travel expenses are paid.

How Much? I generally only charge a nominal fee plus what it costs me in copy charges. In most cases, I won’t ask for more than $50. To explain why, see the “Author” section of this website. I belive that debate is important for young people and offers an invaluable character and intelect building opportunity. I also know from personal experience that breaking into the debate world can be difficult when experienced teachers are in short supply.

How Many? I am willing to work with 4-10 students per seminar.
